Hello everyone, I´m pretty new to this forum but have already found lots of interesting and helping Topics. Seems to be a nice and helping community. I´m a fourth year Medical Student from Germany (7th Semester, with 4 Semesters of pre-clinical subjects) and planning on taking Step1 at the End of 2007. Because I have to study for both Step1 and Med-School (got Pediatrics, Gyn...) I think It´s pretty realistic to calculate rough 1 year for preparation. So, I already read a lot about book suggestions and rather than buying lots of books right now and not being able to read them I want to begin with 1 or 2 subjects first. I´m considering to start with Physiology (had it in 3rd/4rd Semester) buying the Physiology book written by Costanzo (not the BRS one) and maybe Pharmacology (Katzung and Trevors Examination and Board Exam), combined with Kaplan Lecture Notes from 2004. On First Aid there will be released a 2007 Edition on 15. December, so I´m gonna wait for that one. I think I won´t be able to learn more than 2-4 ours during the week, maybe on weekends 6-8 h, but not every weekend. What do you think about my plan? Got similar experiences? Thank you for your opinions. Theo

Thank you Sherly. So, today I got Katzung´s Pharmacology and Physiology by Costanzo and from my first impression I got by reading some pages they seem to be pretty good. Well, so how to start? For the next two weeks my schedule leaves enough room to learn 5-6h for Step1, so I´m asking what´s a good way to learn? Back when we had our first exam after the 4th Semester I used a combination of reading from books (summary books) and answering multiple-choice questions on CD. Did not take any notes at all, only for the oral exam which consistet of biochemistry, anatomy and physiology. But I think this time notes are helpful not only for quick recapitulation but also to learn working with english medical vocabulary. Would you suggest working through each page or is there some kind of prioritie list for Step1? Thanks for your time!
