i subscribed to this forum to seek ur help ...i was a silent reviewer of this forum till now .i really admire how people are helping each other out in this time of need.
Now about myself ...i'm an img from india , graduated in 2004 march, got 74 in first attempt in step1,was very depressed. But tried again and got 86,got 89 in step 2ck (first attempt), passed step 2csa ,now ecfmg certified. I've got 2 indexed articles in pubmed and few other publications ....thru my research experience in U.S. I've U.S. clinical experience by doing two months of observership at a university hospital, got two strong letters of recommendations from atttending physicians too . I applied in 60 programs for residency in internal medicine but so far got 10 rejections and no interview call .My eras application was available by mid of september ,but my LORs got available to the programs few days back. I've simply applied to the img friendly programs , a possible combination of the community based programs and some university based programs . I am totally lost as to , how to tackle the situation . I urgently need some feedback ,help and suggestions from all you experienced people in this forum.
thanx

Well, we are in the same boat. You need to wait for better days. The only thing I can see in ur case is, you got too many rejections and few programs you applied to. maybe you should apply to some more after having selected them accurately. Cos you got only 50 programs left which is a quite small number for an IMG who needs a visa (do you need it?), has one failure and scores in the 80s.
hope this helps

Not many programs consider applications with second attempt ...so this is the reason why i've applied in just 60 programs .Do you think i should apply to any other program even if they specifically mention strictly on 1st attempt .
anyways thanx , for the input . ___________________ diya

progs with 1 attempts criteria tend to stick on it. I personally think it would be rejection for sure.

Somehow feeling very low and desperate ....its like one happen to have mistakes in life ,like a failure in one exam , shouldnt do irrepairable damage to one's life ...that was my assumption ?? Please anybody has any suggestion ...to constructively come out of this problem , as of now , it appears to me , like a deadend . I've left no stone unturned to take corrective measure ,in order to improve my cv , due to the failure once . But should it be end of world ?? with the research experience ,usce, publications , can no one have a second look at me ?? family medicine is equally competetive ....
i can't even go back to india ....my husband is here .

There is no perfect candidate. everybody has his strength and his weakness. your weakness is one failure, someone else is a 75 on one step, some other one else is 10-15 years from graduation. Don't look at your weakness but at your strength, and as I told you in the first mess, select accurately some more prog and apply.

Hi Diya,
I tell you a proof of life. A friend of mine is an IMG (but he is US citizen). He flunked step 1 AND CS last year. Because of that, he obviously didnt match last year. But this year, he got 9 IV as of today. He applied to FP. I just want to say that chances are still there for us as long as we have patience.
Good luck to you. I think you should apply widely and my friend applied to almost 100 FP programs this year.

Hi Diya...1st relax...many people with scores less than you get residency every year so you have a good chance..My iota of advice...pass step 3, also apply to FP...use resources(word of mouth matters a lot here in US)...give ACLS, PALS...do everything that you can...peak interview season is here and u should be hearing some good news in no time...GL girl.. ___________________ Protect me from knowing what I don't need to know.
