I really don't know because are different opinions; anyway I found more articles about "MCC is N.meningitidis - adults and S.pneumoniae- elderly" than reversed.

  #4

it's neisseria meningitidis from 6-60 years. i saw this in many questions , neisseria before 60 and strept pneumoniae after 60.

Adults: Neiseria mening., elderlies Strep.pneum. based on other sources. It seems like elderly people are more prone to Strep pneum. (pneumoc. vaccine??).

S. pneumoniae meningitis can really occur at any age. There may be a peak at some age group, but I've seen it in many age groups. My most memorable was a patient who had removed a truck tire wrong, and it exploded and caused a skull fracture. The guy was in his late 20's (this was in 1987). The gossip was that he had been taken off antibiotics the day before and came down with the meningitis the next day. Rumor was that he had brain damage. I don't know if any of this is true, but it is an interesting case, nonetheless.

Thanks, blueocean, for the lingo translation. I thought I knew most of the medical lingo, but I guess there's always room to add one more to the list!grin
