What is the difference between alpha 1 and alpha 2 receptors? I think alpha 1 receptors increase blood pressure and alpha 2 receptors decrease blood pressure...is there anything else?

alpha 2 are located on the presynaptic membrane and alpha1 postsynaptic. alpha1 is coupled w/ Gq protein and alpha 2 w/ Gi protein

alpha1 - PK C - Gq protein - vasoconstriction
alpha2 - PK A - Gi protein - decrease sympathetic (which produces vc), decrease insulin

be careful here, alpha2 receptors agonists acting peripherally can actually raise the blood pressure!

its the central effect of alpha-2 agonists that has antihypertensive effects!
