bethanechol has strong muscarinic activity. Major action on smooth musculature of bladder & GIT
It stimulates atonic bladder esp in postpartum or postop non-obstructive urinary retention
SE: sweatin, salivation, flushing, dec BP, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea and bronchospasm
