How does laparoscopic surgery cause reduced venous return and also air embolism? thx

When a laparoscopic surgery is performed, you have to create a pneumoperitoneum maintained with continuos air insuflation(CO2), in order to create a peritoneal cavity.(otherwise you would't be able to see anything) If the air pesure is to high it causes veins to colapse, reducing venous return. The same high air presure may cause air embolism.

agree. Too much pressure from CO2 insuflation.
