The following physical signs can give a clue to the clinical diagnosis in general examination except
A. cafe au lait complexion
B. clubbing of fingers
C. microaneurysm, hemorrhage and soft exudates in the optic fundi
D. spider vaevi
E. tophi in the first tarso-metatarsal joint

plz explain yr ans

A. if of a given number and size ( eg more than 5 prepubertal, morew than 6 post pubertal) may indicate NF

B. points towards conditions aso wityh chronic hypoxia. CF, lung Ca, cyanotic heart disease...however it duz not point to a specific dx.

C. retinopathy--htn or DM

D denotes hyperestrogenic states. but i dont think its very sensitive or specific.

E. probably gout ( chronic hyperuricemic state)

if i had to choos ethe answer id probably vote for D

the official ans is C.
there is no explanation so i dunno know

I agree with study_ing but I'd pick B. I'd never pick C. If I found clubbing, I'd have to examine pulmonary airways, liver, heart... While C I'd directly go for hypertension and diabetes.

so by what STAR1 said, the key point is "general examination", we usu do not include ophthalmoscope in our general examination..

ANswer seem to be C

all the rest are physical sign mean you can see them on the patient but fot C you cant see and need some instrument ... this is my reason
