hello everyone i scored really badly in my step 1 inspite of preparing really hard for it. i am really dissapointed as got only 82 and had hopes of doing sugery. still havent taken my step 2 but my step1 score has put doubts in my mind whether i should continue on with the step2 exmas.
im only interested in surgery could somone please tell me whether there is any chance i could get a surgical residency and if there is any point in taking the step2 at this stage...appreciate it! thanks!

thanks shumaila...my confidence took a severe blow as i was sure i would get over 90. do you know of anyone who got into surgery with <90 scores? is there anything that i could do like electives or something else which might give me more credit?

Hi Ramo7, no need to lose hope. I too am in the same situation as u r, i worked my ass off but didnt score enough to think of surgery. With high scores there is an increased probability that you might get surgery but there is no guarantee. There are many ways to improve your chances, its all about how much you want it be it surgery or medicine. Take your step2 asap and go to US, try to get a research position. Keep working hard make contacts, hopefully it will all work out for you. I know people who had scores of 85/92 who got into surgery and 90/82 who got into radiology. And many more examples, but the thing is dont follow an example BE an example. Once you lose hope thats the point where u have already lost, keep your hope up and ur aims high, it might take a couple of more yrs but than every1 has his own fate and luck .......keep hitting the ball till you score and i assure you will score
