u r rite. thats wat i was thinking but do u think choice C there's a typo...it should be resp alkalosis & not acidosis. Given choices B seems to fit in best as the respiratory part comes later (compensatory)

Respiratory alkalosis starts in phase I of salicylate toxicity which is 1-12 hrs

Metabolic acidosis occurs in phase II of salicylate toxicity which is 12-24hrs

Ref:Conn's Current therapy 2006 page 1481

Note : This is not FA

Best of luck

Actually ,we ususally think probably salicylates produce metabolic acidosis first which in turn stimulates the respiratory centre to produce respiratory alkalosis. In fact salicylates by themselves are repsiratory center stimulants like theophylline and progestrone. So they stimulate repiratory center first as their primary effect, later produce metabolic acidosis because

They are ECT blocker by causing Uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation ----------> accumulation of NADH -----------> lactic acidosis ---------> Anion gap metabolic acidosis

best of luck
