we have acidosis in both DKA and hyperosmolar nonketotic coma!! How to differentiate these two? Do we need to do, coz the treatment plan is the same. right?

in DKA, there will be excess ketones in blood and urine. these are absent in HONK. essential cos in HONK. probably more academic to differentiate between them cos treatment is same...fluids, electrolyte and insulin.

HONK has worse prognosis cos it is seen in older people who tend to ahve multiple pathologies
