50 yr old male pt presents with hypertension (BP = 150/95) and atrial flutter. His cardiac output appears sufficient and there is no evidence of CAD. Which of the following agents might help both his HT and his atrial flutter?

a) nifedipine
b) digoxin
c) verapamil
d) prozosin
e)quinidine

correct C verapamil

A flutter is a supraventricular arrhythmia treated by drugs which slow AV nodal conduction. Digoxin, quinidine, and verapamil all slow nodal conduction; however, only verapamil will also effectively lower BP. Nifedipine will lower BP but doesnt slow AV nodal conduction
