Please Consider hiring the people who have been working their tails off for a couple years, living against the odds, and believeing in what they do, before you choose some joe schmoe who is just off the boat or who is still getting here, just coz mr.schmoe has a couple extra points or has a residency prior to this one.

Just coz Mr.Schmoe decided at 35 yrs of age that after all of his accomplishments he wants to come and be in the way of young kids who are trying to get a residency and settle down in their lives, he should not be chosen over fresh graduates, without clinical experiance, coz after all Residency is Training. And whats the point of Training someone who is already Trained! what are you accomplishing mr.PD, just a false sense of satisfaction that you have trained an already trained person.

In the Land of Justice and recognition for Hard work, where do we the common folk, who come to america with the only intention of working 24 hrs a day just to get in to a Residency in America, Stand! thats right where do we stand! ?

So in conclusion, Please for the sake of humanity and for your own self conscience, dont cheat on training someone. Train someone who can really practice medicine and contribute to America for a longer time, Train someone who is here now, and who has sweat blood and tears for this opportunity, Instead of Picking Joe Schmoe off the boat, who is strange to you and your staff.

Lets put the Bang back in Bang-a-lore! and have him work a couple years if he really wants to be a Resident like the rest of us.



p.s. I dont mean to offend anyone. Its just a personal feeling that i am looked at as an inferior coz i was away from a hospital, coz i cant get to one in America without being certified, And Mr. FOB gets the 1 yr DNB experiance and tries to overtake us hardworking folk.

well said...but hiring MDs/DNBs helps PDs rest in peace(not that 'rest in peace'!!)...

Hey Budlight,

Maybe you need a few drinks or maybe you were not cuddled enough as a child but I do find your little dissertation offensive and just plain ignorant. I do not know if your were joking or what your issues are.

This is where I would say some explicitives but this forum is not for that but is to be supportive. I am 42 and can work rings around you and just because I decided to begin a new profession has nothing to do with my age.

Either your are not form the US or were brain dead during school but this country is about not picking and choosing people based on age, sex, religion, color of their skin, sexual preference and because you are in the system it does not even discriminate based on stupidity.

So, relax take some valium and quit being offensive. If you are not from the US please go home to your own country. I would rather have IMG's who respect our countries values, honored by being able to learn medicine in the US and do not have discriminative policy.

Bottom line: GET A LIFE.

Calm down, guys. Less passion, please.
Budlight- if You're newly graduated, I'm sure, PDs are not expecting You to have too much experience. Your young age and recent graduation are both excelent qualities, and PD will aknowledge it, I'm sure.
For shmoes like us ( for the record, I'm 30, not 35!)-we are older graduates, and given the fact that we've been out of Medical school for a while the good way to evaluate us would be- "do we have an experience"...PDs don't want somebody 10 years after medical scholl, who has seen patients last time 8 years ago for their programs.
That's it.
And please,don't forget, we, shmoes, too do lots of other things to get residency. Some of us work up to 16 hours per day, pay bills, take care of families and then, after long day, open the book and start reviewing. We deprive ourselves of lots of good things, including sleep, fun, time for friends and families- just to get to residency.
Be tolerant.

Dear Program Director,

First off, I will say that I am a hard-working IMG. The scores aren't the greatest, you will see, but you haven't seen the best side of me by looking at simply a number. I not only put 110% into my work, but I am a great co-worker, a great enthusiast and above all, a great doctor.

Secondly, I will tell you that I am a somewhat older IMG (30-something) and am damn proud of it. I went to a different country to study medicine, not because I didn't get into medical school in the United States, but because I wanted to. One of my many personal goals in life was to live abroad for a while, and I was able to combine my both passions (the other being medicine). No, I didn't study medicine in English. I took it upon myself to study medicine in the language of the country I studied in. But I understand (even being an American myself) that that doesn't count "fer nuthin'" in the US... I'd like to see some PDs try that.

Thirdly, although I am not currently officially affiliated with a clinic, I still am a successful published medical author.

So, if you think Joe-Schmoe's are people with minimal scores/multiple attempts, then I PROUDLY say that my name is Joe Schmoe. If you feel that the bad scores and multiple attempts are a reason NOT to take me in your residency program...... Just wait until I tell the world what idiots you are for not taking me into your program.

You're missing out on some very excellent Joe-Schmoe's out there. And I feel very sorry for you for not seeing the qualities of all those Joe-Schmoe's out there.

Right on Spebeeto!!

We all have our struggles and hardships to get where we are going. I got an email from one of my classmates who just finished an interview out on the east coast.

She indicated the new PD suggested that she was going to "crack down on these IMG's" What a pathetic person to say something like that to someone who has battled blackouts, hurricanes, studying by candle light and not such good living conditions to chase their dreams.

People like that have lost the meaning of what it is to be a physician. It just makes me sad.

Thanks Spebeeto for making me feel almost like an authority.

What stands out in your post is how you have underscored your own virtue without ,even for a moment ,taking a discourse to highlight other's vice .Our mind is a rudderless wanderer blown here or there by any puff of breeze but you have kept yours from being easily distracted by incognizant aspersions some people resort to casting .;You have stayed put to your own cause without demeaning others .Brilliantly done .It stands out more so coz such an expression is seeming almost like a rarity among the arguements on controversial issues on the forum.That is a sheer constructive attitude which allows you to fly yourself to rise instead of climbing on a stockpile of corpses .I hope everybody will learn from your post .

for the original poster- First of all, the thing I really like about the USA is this-Most americans I know look past outwardly qualities and look at the true person you are. The other thing is regardless of whether you are old, or young, you have esperience or you dont, whether you are changing profession or not, a truly hardworkign person will be recognized here and given credit. This is one of the reasons why you are here, trying to match in to a residency postiion. So try to achieve what you want by your own strengths and skills, not by tring to step on others or trying to destroy your competition.

Its seems you are stressed out about this process, but so is everyone else. Try to be constructive in this waiting period, instead of composing such posts.

Here is a "clarification" what 100 percent means:

It goes as follows......

This is a strictly mathematical viewpoint...it goes like this:

What Makes 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 103%? What makes up 100% in life?

Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:

If:
A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z

is represented as:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26.

Then:

H-A-R-D-W-O-R-K
8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%



an d


K-N-O-W-L-E-D-G-E
11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%

But,

A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E
1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100%

And,

B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T

AND, look how far ass kissing will take you.

So, one can conclude with mathematical certainty that While Hard work and Knowledge will get you close, and Attitude will get you there, it's the Bullshit and Ass kissing that will put you over the top.
