What's your plan for scheduling interviews. There is talk about scheduling low priority intvw first for practice. I have intvws from good places. Is it wise to schedule them first hoping for a prematch or is this a bad idea??

hi hookorcrook

well its a tricky situation here... its abt researching the programs re prematch offers and who dont...

its good that if you have one or two practice interviews (who do not offer prematch and are equally low profile) and then move on to interviews frm good places offering prematches

( advice applicable only if you have luxury of attending so many interviews)

but hey hookorcrook you look pretty much determined to get matched anyhow....GL

Guys... Please help here. How does one find out if a program offers prematches. There are only very few program websites with resident email Ids.
How many interviews does it take to make it safe to go for Match(even when offered prematch).I know this is a wierd que..but anyone who knows people who have actually "matched"please put in a few words.I feel totally lost...

Hi hookorcrook

Indeed ur name shows u are determined.I dont know for sure how to find out if someone offers prematches( dont think scutworks.com would help ). In fact I too am trying to figure that out.

But the second questions is easy:

The more places u interview the better; financial restraints and time managment s will play a big factor; plus remember one thing:there are many people desperately waiting for interview right hereinthis forum, so value an interview when u get it ,make sure u attend most(if not all) unless of course u prematch into any program.

I had one question too!! was wondering if university programs offer prematches?(plus any webiste for researching prematches and info on programs other than scutworks)

Yes I will match by hook...wink))Worked too hard just to get this far(I'm sure everyone has).
I think prematch info is just by word of mouth. Have a headache trying to google stuff.
Uni programs usually donot prematch...there are exceptions. So thinking will try and intvw with unis first.. just in case...What do you think Platinum??

well hookorcrook I just landed into an interview with my dream program, its a univeristy program but I couldnt schedule other interviews before this one( for practice!!!).In fact it looks as if i will be beginning my interview season with this program.

But I would recommend starting with community progs then moving to Univ bcos community MAY offer u prematch anyways ,so if u are looking for something big use them as a primer before u goto big Univs......u never know

see it this way--I donot want to even be tempted to accept a prematch from a community program before I intvw with the big names.
I too am starting with a Uni prog-smaller one though.I have my dream prgram lil later. I'm seriously considering going for the match unless a fantastic comm. program offers me a prematch. I dunno this whole strategy part is getting too much for me.
BTW if a program offers prematch will they give some time to decide or is it "ur deadline is tomorrow evening"??

its a very fluid scenario and generalisations cannot be applied. im startin with the trashiest progs imaginable in oct and then movin onto the big fish in nov. have decided to reject any and all comm prematches except for the biggest names. know what ur worth, know what u want and dont sell urself short - thats all. glsmiling face
