i am a FMG from india planning to apply for anesthesia residency
step1 94/step2CK awaiting results/Cs in last week of Oct
2002 grad/MD anesth 2006/ need visa/ No USCE/USLOR.
my questions
1.what is the difference b/w Advanced & Categorical?
( My understanding is
Advanced is PGy2 to 4 ...starting in 2008-9
categorical is PGY1 to 4 ....starting in 2007-08
to make it confusing some have PGY2 to 4 categorical???)
2.Can I apply for both at the same place?
3.If I apply for advanced, should i find PGy 1 some where else?
4. In what specialties can i do pGY1 for anesth...med/ surg...any other specialty?

hi yuya
u know the answers to most of the questions; i think that you can apply for both categorical and advanced program at the same place; ask any of the Program coordinators for PGY1 specialty..

Apply for everything possible, plus apply for several preliminary IM and/or Surgery programs. If You don't make it for cathegorical starting PG1, but match for PG2, sometimes PDs can help-I read somwhere that they have connections with IM and Surgery programs in the same clinic...
