You aren't allowed to touch patients but try to get your benefits. be punctual, polite, ask questions on rounds and try to impress others. hope you earn a good LOR. GL

dont ever come late every morning, this is the worse thing you can do to yourself during observership and one most bad impression. Show keeness. Take thorough history of patients and present it to whoever you are assigned to be with. Try to get every chance to present cases, topics in meetings. Dont be passive

nothing, but you can imagine what the LOR will be like. I think you have worked at all in medicine or surgery. How annoying it is if someone turns-up late

LOL bbb, Who is serious & who is relaxed time will tell that. We are human being not machine na?? Its really unfortunate to pressureise a doctor.........who has taken oath to take care of pt. This doesn't mean that he & she don't need time for his or her own problem.....don't u think it is pretty unfair? All we need is comittment...............not a robot like attitude. PUNCTUALITY IS GOOD....BUT it is not the confirmatory test of Physicians seriousness to his pt. Doctors have learn behavioural science.... to be empathetic to others/patients...but what about them...they are human too. Thx

bep111 u shudnt make a mockery of some1's replies as u hv jst made, esp of some1 like bbb who is such a helpful... he was jst telling us wut the reality is. And by the way not being punctual is a sign of unprofessionalism, be it any occupation u tk up, not only doctors..it reflects our seriousness to the profession...m not saying its asin to b late or something.but i guess if u r late, u shud apologise n give ur reason. I m sure they wont mind it if its a valid a reason...

Javed , patients need help.......not ur professionalism. Don't be so professional so that u forget about all other humanely things. By the way i didn't made mockery of anyones comment............it is u who has misunderstood. U better mind ur own bussiness. What i have tried to reflects that we need break sometimes.....& it should be consider with empathy. bep111

Helping thousands to get into residency doesn't mean you forget the normal way to talk. By the way javed & antivirus .......i don't want 3rd party politics. Keep ur words & gratitude to bbbb with u. Don't try to impose ur greatfulness like this way.....

i don't understand why bep111, is so rude at everybody, and arrogant. we are here to help each other. bep111, be late in everything, try to criticize everybody, you will probably earn good LOR!! the way that people mention here is not only for the US, but also is working for the other parts of the world.

Amir, et al - I'm not worried - being late to a volunteer position might make someone that you would be trying to impress feel that you don't care. If Bep111 wants to think that I am being rude, that's their opinion, and I can't do anything to change that. The purpose of an observership is to get exposure to the US medical system. The question was if someone come late, what will happen. Maybe nothing, maybe won't get as strong of a recommendation letter as they might have wanted. Possibly removed from the observership if they are chronically late. Also, what's the definition of late? 5 minutes - usually no big deal. 2 hours - big deal. Subject closed.
