1)you can upto a certain extent within the realms of your expertise. 2)Do Family physcians do Caesarean sections Do Gynecs treat men . Do Family Physicians do hysterectomies DO Gynecs counsel and treat alcoholics /drug addicts 3) resident decides it .

Hi Super, trying to ans ur qs from what I know... 1)yes u can practice some Ob after 3 yrs of FM but its only basic and depends on how good ur Ob training was. If ur FM training is unopposed then I suppose training is good. The trend these days (from what I know) is that FM people stop practising Ob becoz insurance for Ob is high. U refer any complicated cases to Ob/Gyns,MFMs etc. Gyn practice after FM is almost nil. And ofcourse u cannot do a f'ship. Some FM people I have heard do 1 yr of extra training(called housemanship I think) in a teaching hospital in Ob so they are better trained to practice Ob. This is what I know and have heard of ...corrections are welcome.

hook is bang on the crook. but even after that 1yr u cant do any gyn. only ob.

now a days people are coming to gynae as well and had fellowship after fm residency by the name of womens health
