Dear Cix!
It's a kind of question which suggests that You have to choose the most important (and relevant!) information about Yourself. And thats exactly where the trick is- what will You choose to tell to the PD? There's so much more to us that just applying for residence!
I think the right answer to be: short intro- ..."my name is XYZ, I'm xx years old. I'm from ZZZ, graduated in YYYY, I'm very interested in Your position. My experience/ interest includes the following":.......area of interest in medicine/experience in medicine.... "My personal strengths are"...don't overblow Yourself too much about how good You are...."My personal weeknesses are" ..... tell smth small, but Your real weakness, hopefully it won't significantly affect their choice of You..." When away from work/ hospital,I like"...music, science, I don't know, Your current hobby.... "You won't regret choosing me, sir/ma'm"

Well I hadnt thought of making public my take on this coz what i am going to say is going to land me a prematch whrerever I go.BUt lets do it now.MY approach on this question is gonna be an aggressive and ruthless one ,a little different from what everybody would expect me to have .The key to success will be how you play mind games with the PD .

PD-tell me about yourself
ME-SIr I must appreciate your audacity which Led you to ask me such a question .I cant be dishonest and tell lies.I cant tell you about my past because you will start reeling in your chair on hearing what i have and have not done.I can give you an idea of what i am doing these days and what i plan to do in nthe near future..
Presently I am reading a book called "World most popeular murderers, despots and con-men."
I Bought it from Garbage shop because it fitted my wallet more than my taste.I have been reading it for the last one week, and I can already feel murderous tendencies creeping into me.

I know it is creepy, and that is why I don`t read it in the night. In fact, I read it in the morning, immediately after getting up.
Blame it on my early morning reading, when one's mind is impressionable (i know coz my father always asked me to get up early and study), I have been having murderous tendencies since.
For example, there were these two ants that ate my whole breakfast this morning . I know you are laughing at the volume of my breakfast, but I am dieting. Anyways coming back to the ants ,I think You dont want to know what happened to them :coz if i tell youthen you will stop eating your own breakfast fearing that I may do something to you >ANyways i dont want to scare you today but i will be honest with you .
Today, I brought that murderous tendency of mine to the INterview . In fact, I was really scared, that I would end up killing somebody here. Luckily, nothing of that sort happened coz i can see in your eyes that your are going to give me a prematch .I dont kinow what i would have done if I couldnt see that in your eyes.
You want to know my future plans Sir .Before I tell you mine let me recommend something for you .. I'd recommend that you become a back-up rap singer and let me become the Program director . All you do as a Rap singer is say, "Yeah!" and "yeah !" at appropriate intervals while someone else does all the complicated part of rapping. Sounds like little work, and you get all the hooplah you want.
As of my future plans I dont think you will believe me .I want to destroy the Sun .Sun is not that large for a star, and has an inferiority complex which is why it's such a bully. As soon as I figure out how, I will destroy the sun, and I will be known as "Destroyer of Suns".

Well done laptop...
Its a very interesting question with a multitude of answers with a single aim to get pre-match on the spot or give PD a chance to better do it by the match process, otherwise..
I would like to add on the strengths and weakness section b'coz that's where you can win or lose the game... just to mention in Top ranked Psych interview i would be comfortable mentioning abt how well i can manage patients with drug and alcohol problems due to my rich knowlege secondary to its misuse...
Regarding weakness i am still to find one but i dont like people who say no to what i want...briefly mentioning how this post is important to me..and letting the PD do the rest of the business by giving an idea re my forensic history...
hope it covers the needful...

:-) :-) what do you eat laptop .You are just amazing .I still cant stop laughing over the Rap singing and the sun destruction.Tell us a few more tricks of getting a prematch.I am just thinking how creative your ps would have been.

"Tell me about yourself"
Well, to start with, I want to work in Internal Medicine (or Surgery, or ....) because of my interest in _____________. I learned in medical school that I liked this field best. My strengths are (willingness to pitch in, ability to think in a crisis, etc). My weakness is, like most recent grads (or medical students), that I need to read more current medical literature).
Outside of medicine I enjoy (archery, badminton, cricket, beading, swimming, camping, etc....)
I do think that I would be a good fit in this program because......
