If a man is attractive to other men but also request sexual reassignment surgery, what is the diagnosis, ego-dystonic homosexuality or gender identity disorder?

  #2

Thanks to all the "Will n Grace" episodes i have seen, i think the case described above is Gender identity disorder.

The difference is homosexuals are attracted to same sex while being totally satisfied with their own gender. on the other hand, gender identity disorder people often say "They R born in the wrong body" and hence try to go for surgery..

I agree, however the answer provided by Kaplan is ego dystonic homosexuality.

  #4

I think that the answer should be gender identity disorder.

bullshit! the egodistonic homosexual man is atracted to other men and is frightened, horrified by this thought, so he meets with women even if he doesn't feel anything for them, even atempts suicide, mutilation

on the other hand the GID guy likes men and wants to have "heterosexual sexual relations" with them, so he goes to the plastic surgeon in a civilized way asking for surgery, not in the ER with the pecker amputated

ego-dystonic homosexuality- a disorder of people who are persistently dissatisfied with their homosexuality and wish instead to be attracted to members of the opposite sex.
gender identity disorder- a disorder of people who have a pervasive feeling of beeing born in the wrong body of the wrong sex.
so I guess the kaplan's answer is wrong!
