it says:

1. all HIV-infected patients

2. chronic liver disease

3. people who are at high risk as homosexual men and IVDU

I don't understand the 3rd number as an indication for hepatitis A

prophylaxis!!!

homosexuals and IVDU=increased risk of HIV=increased risk to be immunocompromised and get diff infections=hep A prophylaxis as other prophylaxis....

this is what i think..

homosexuality --fecoanal.

IVDu--i guess these guys wud be at risk coz even hep A wud coz viremia and hence its transmission by blood wud be possible. in the genearl population, keeping in mind the risk of exposure of hepa the risk wud be less. but the high risk behaviors and generally poor hygieneof ivdu wud probably make em more likely to acquire the dz and transmit it.

about the ivdu..

in general the risk of hepa transmission via blood ins low.

in IVDU
  • i guess the risk of acquiring hep a wud be high ( poor hygienne , other drug users)
  • risk of transmission high when hepa is in viremic stage ( since they r always poking needles)
