what organisms are classified under gm-ve coccobacilli?

  #2

Please don't memorize lists of gram negative coccobacilli. You'll never remember the bacteria this way.

This could include how some people describe these organisms. Some people describe organisms as gram negative coccobacilli that really aren't. Case in point: One of the questions on this list described Eikenella corrodens recently as a gm -ve coccobacilli.

I had one in a culture over the weekend and gram stained it, just to double check my memory. It was definitely gram negative rods - NOT coccobacilli. Whoever described E. corrodens as a gncb in your text books is full of baloney.

The description of GNCB is pretty subjective. Again, best to find another way to learn micro....

H. ducreyi is a highly fastidious organism that is not easily cultured in a regular micro lab, as it requires highly specilized media. It's a send out that requires specific transport media that our lab doesn't even carry. I have never seen it growing. If it's like other Hemophilus sp. it is a coccobacillus, although very small.

I have never seen Bartonella or Legionella on a plate either. You guys sure do pick the fussy ones....:-)
