I received an email from a program, which goes like this

The required length of training for which ...........................program is accredited is 48 months.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) placed the ....................................program under Probationary Accreditation status effective ........... 2005.

What does it mean?

Your reply is appreciated!

Is it ok to attend an interview if they call me for one? or is risky?

I think when the program is on PROBATION it has to prove itself worthy of providing graduate education in the next 2 yrs..if it fails the fate of residents looms in the air...inputs from senior members might be more helpful...GL

It means that the program has 48 months to get it's act in gear and improve - 48 months from the 2005 date. You can check with the program and ask what have they done to improve since their probationary accreditation or avoid this program like the plague.

Good luck.
