Hi, I am still not sure if I should apply for both Categorical and preliminary.

And if I do apply for preliminary, do I have to indicate specialty interests? thanks!!

If you want a three year residency, then you want categorical. If you are looking for something else after one year, you want preliminary.

Good luck

Do I have to indicate specialty in the preliminary section, if I apply for both?

I don't know if what I'm gonna say it will help you or not but...I applied to couple of programs checking both cat. and prel. and I don't think it's an issue, as long as going to the interview I'm gonna say that IM is what I want and that specific program is one of my best choice so either option will work for me and in case I get prel, I'm gonna re-apply the next year to cat. with the whole "wondeful" experience already gained. this is my speach and in fact it's very close to the truth.

Thanks a lot!!!
In the form, there is this place to indicate which specialty for the future.
Can we leave it empty?
Or we have to say 'neurology' etc?
Please answer. thanks!

you can let it unfilled; but if you put neurology and cat IM, it will be hard to explain...it's like you want both...in your place, I would think twice before I put cat and neuro...
