A stenotic mitral valve with shortened thickened chordae tendineae is accidentally found via biopsy of a patient died in a motor vehicle accident. What organism due to a past infection causes these findings? 1. Viridans streptococci 2. Group A betahemolytic streptococcus

I have two reasons, first strep.viridans usually involves a previously damaged heart valve(no history here), second it usually leads to insufficiency and CHF. But as for rheumatic fever the description (thickened short chordea tendineae which leads to stenosis and then possibly CHF is very exact.
