just wondering:

1) if an interview invitation doesnt mention specifically that its for a prelim position, do we assume that its for a categorical?

2) how amenable are program coordinators/directors to change the date when they have given a single fixed date or 3-4 dates to choose from?

I mean if one is in the same city, how does one manage to schedule the interviews in the city all together so as to save on air fare? do we tell this to the programs?

3) How does one go about asking for second look? just ask PD? what does one do on second look?

1- I dont know, may be bbb??

2. Usually single date- u cant change at all. 3,4 dates you can chose one of them. i dont think its a good idea telling them u have otehr interviews. u cna say u will be in town in those days.

3. ASk PD. HAve a look leisurely. Try to meet pD. follow residents, attend ocnferences....

1. It would mention preliminary if it was preliminary.

2. Depends on the availability of the other date that you are thinking of. If you are thinking of a day that wasn't mentioned, it's probably not being offered for an intervew. Yes, tell me if you have other interviews in the area and I can try and book you at the same time. But if the day is full - it's full unless someone cancels.

3. Just ask if you can come back. Different programs have different second looks. My program? You go on rounds, attend lectures and leave when you need it. It is NOT a second interview. You may not even see the program director.

Good luck

Thanks

"Yes, tell me if you have other interviews in the area and I can try and book you at the same time. But if the day is full - it's full unless someone cancels."

So the PC should himself/herself ask? we should not be telling them ourselves?

That means the benefit of second look in terms of demonstrating your liking for the program to the staff varies between programs. Correct?

awesome no. of applications!!

I'm not going to ask if you have other interviews - if you want to schedule everything together you should say that "I am planning my interviews in Atlanta (or Missouri or California or Texas or New York) at this time - is there anything you can do to help?" As a PC, I want my life easy, I will give you a date - if you can't make it or will be in my city at another time, let me know.

Good luck.

Jee, and I thought that my accent came across in my writing. I guess I paid attention in English class.

Where am I? Somewhere between New York and Seattle, New Orleans and Chicago - off a major highway, and settled nicely in your PC's (or laptops, or blackberrys or what ever you are using).

Coffee is ready, gotta run.
