i need your advice, feel lost and confused.

I'm an old img, with many years of experience in ENT area, PhD, publications...I have a GC.
I'm done with step1(80) and step2CS, will take step2CK on middle Nov.
Have 1 US LOR from Mayo, will have 1 LOR from my homeland, where i just finished my postgradual and got PhD.

I would like to get ENT residency.

My question is:

1. when to apply? i'll get my LOR on Oct 16th....
A/ what is better and when will i have better chance - waiting for completing my documents and send my application after oct 16th
or
B/ send my application now and add my LOR on Oct 16th?

2. should i apply also for prelim surgery? and after 1 year will apply for ENT again? I know that according to statistics i have only 1.9%chance to get ENT residency.....

thanks for your advice.

2. apply to prelim too; it will be good even if you don't get ENT this year; for next year application.

BBBs name should have come before anybody,,then maverick coz he knows more about surgery and I m just a nonentity.I know stuff about IM so cant really say with confidence what you should do.I will say what i feel and what i know

1)At least start working on your application now.Fill in the Caf very well and prepare your personalstatemetn.I gathered from mavericks statement that in surgical fields you can apply in october without loosing out on too many things. In IM I am sure that if you apply after 3rd week of sept you start developing puctate purpuric spots and ecchymosis.By middle of october you have haemarthrosis and by november you develop ruptured aortic aneurysm .IN december you arent left with any blood. In surgery how it bleeds ,i am not really sure.Maverick will have a view..THe surgery supremo of this forum Sharvil applied in october and did well .

2)You must apply to prelimnary -i am pretty confident of this advise.

whats this letter that u r expecting? in ENT or surgery? US LOR?

if a very important US LOR, wait, as ENT is already so tough, and interviews wud be hard to come by

if a home LOR, apply. also which is ur home country? australia or UK - u may like to wait

2) ya u anyhow have to apply to prelim if i know correctly (not sure on this). ENT is from 2nd year or 1st? it would be a good backup as well

3) try to get some research in US/observerships etc

thanks fo your answers.

that letter i'm waiting for is from my homeland.
i already have the US LOR.
Both of them are from ENT.

Maverick - yes, ENT is from the 2nd year, there is a general surgery on the PGY1....
does that mean that i have to apply for preliminary in either way? there is only a few information on internet about application for ENT.....and nobody here applies for ENT....
well, i'll do some more research about it....
