A 5 yr girl has cigarette burns on right forearm. She says "It happens when I do bad things". Next most appropriate action for the physician to take?

a. Call the hospital security and declare child abuse case
b. Report to the Child protective authority after telling parents

B?

I remember reading somewhere that you have to call Child protection services in suspected cases of child abuse.

You don't call the cops (you let the social services call the cops), and as for hospital security...well again you let the social services that you contacted do all the work.

Any comments MUCH APPRECIATED. Beh Sci is my weakest subject...!!!

swapna the choice B is NOT to ask permission..but to inform. You are going to report it in any case wether the parents want it or not. Its a diplomatic way of telling 'em ur in deep #*@#

call the child protective authority but do not tell the parents about your intention.
let their experts deal with it . the physician's sole job is to inform the appropriate authorities
parents on hearing such intentions may become frustrated take the child away etc ...
