hi, my referee wrote the LOR for me, but the whole letter is about surgery program application, e.g. he said "he will be an excellent surgeon..."; surgury is my first choice, it is right; but, I will also apply for several other categories, e.g. internal medicine, family medicine, etc. so, shoud I ask him to make some changes in the letter to make it universal for general application? or it doesn't matter when the program director of one internal medicine program read it?

need your suggestions and input!

good luck everybody here

well what I feel is that you can tell him to write your best points and in the end make the letter generalised so that you can use it for various specialties..

Thats what I came to know..

thank you very much! one more question is, is it better to waive the right to view the letter or check it before sending to ERAS? does the program we apply know if we read the letter? or it totally doesn't matter?

thank you again

Hi

it is always better to waive the right to see your LOR,as it looks more genuine.

And if you dont then definitelt PD's come 2 know that you have read the LOR..but that forms the major chunk of our LOR's..dont know how much it matter's ..but if you can manage to waive your right then its always the better

thanks a lot, really appreciate it. so, if i waived the right, i need ask the writer to seal the form and sign on the back, right? is it ok for me to mail the SEALED envelope to ECFMG? Since i want to send it out by fedex, and no reason to ask the the writer pay this money. what do you think?

yes you would need to get the letter sealed and then you can sent it to ECFMG but you need a cover letter , which is available 4 download on the ecfmg website in eras documents section

Good luck
