An elderly male underwent hip sugery 2 days ago.Prior to surgery he is normal.after the surgery nurses report that he is drowsy during the day and then confused, awake, agitated, and hallucinating during the night.
what is the most likely cause ?

well this is classically DELIRIUM .most common in patients after surgery ,they have waxing and waning of consciousness
