Hi all, I just entered this forum after a long struggle of passing step 1 with 77% , am an IMG and a full time working mom...was very hard for me to get thru in first attempt but i know i stand no where no where at alll in this marathon...i have to work hard for step 2...i have been into research since 4 yrs and have 4-5 papers..and wish to go for path residency...is there any slight ray of hope for me..and what should i do..how should i prepare my base to add additional experience to my CV.. ..should i do voluntary job in path...i feel totally lost in this race...plzz someone show me some direction...

well first of all, you DID pass your step 1, so congratulations! but being straight up with you... you can add all you want to your CV, but if you don't figure out what all you have to do to do your best on Step 2 then whatever you have on that CV won't mean much.
so find someone you can work with (whether in person, email and/or chat) on a regular basis, do USMLEWORLD as a bare minimum, and PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for continued guidance and support to juggle your work/home/study life. one day at a time, ssss, one day at a time. at the very least, i'll be praying for you. so pick yourself up, wash yourself off AND GO GO GO!

Do not limit yr expectations just becoz u`ve got low score.. u `ve got good experience and that will help.. i`ve seen many (even myself) who have very hectice shedules but still manage to get thro` usmle... So never ever underestimate yr self .. always think of good and positive and by God`s grace u will get whatever u want ... remember yr thinking is yr limit... GL

Good luck to you, first of all. You should pat yourself on the back. Most of us can't say that we do 1/2 as much as you.
I'd suggest a great book called USMLEHelp Step 2 CK. I've used it a lot, and I think it's a great book. The book is available on Ebay (search for USMLE Help 2). It worked for me, and I used it for Step 3 too, with good results.

congratulations on your success at step 1. it may be a minor one but it is success all the same.
with respect to matching, it would be a good idea for you to find a spot with a pathologist near you so you can have the experience of having worked with them. they will also write letters of recommedation for you when the time comes.
as for step 2, just put your all into it. the only limitation that exists is yourself. if you tell yourself that you can do it, then you will do it. you can make a 99 in step 2 if you desire it strongly enough to work for it. you will have to sacrifice a lot for it. i always tell myself that it is but one short time of my life and so i need to give my all into it. so go for it gal. join the hundreds of mothers who have done it. you can do it too.
sorry i have written a lengthy epistle. i remember how i felt at the very beginning. it took me a year to finally settle in my mind to go for these exams. am looking forward to finishing them soon.
