hi guys, First of all goodluck to ya'll for the interviews and residencies. As for me, i am feeling a little bit sad and anxious about my future and next year match. I am going thru hospitals requirements and seems like almost 50% of them saying graduation within last 5 yrs (i.e 2001 and later). I am a gradaute of 2001 and i have my step 1 score of 92 but the soonest i can take Step2 Ck will be in dec and after that CS. Besides that, i dont have any clinical experience and have been out of medicine for almost 5 yrs now. I have no idea what i will tell the PD when they will question "what were u doing after your graduation?....How is it perceived when you take time off to take care of family and kids. I dont have big dreams nor am i aggressive and ambitious as most of my friends here. I am just a person who wants to have a job as a doctor i dont care which specialty, just a job in my own city in texas where we are settled as a family. But it looks like its getting tougher each year. The only good thing in my credentials is that i dont need a visa. Whenever i look at people credentials they have a long list of USCE and i wonder how? whenever i contact anybody they say they dont offer USCE...now how on earth am i going to get some USCE? i just read on this forum jamaica psychiatry offers externship for 5 months but the author suggested its a big joke. Why? is it not worth it? i am considering it as my last resort to gain USCE. Sometimes i dont even feel like studying for CK.... i wonder what difference will it make if a person graduated in 2001 or 2002?..i understand they have to set a cut off somewhere...but are they strict about it.is there a filter that automatically rejects people who do not meet certain criteria?...I can go on and on...but well! i have to get back to studies So Goodluck you guys and if anyone has answers to my questions plz reply ...I hope you guys achieve your goals because every one of you deserve it. Ameen

hey sarika your score is very good in step1 and there are many programs which do not have any time limits which you can particularly focus for applying, may be psych or FP are the programs to look for if you are interested. to be honest they may not be so stringent with these criteria as i dont have ecfmg certificate and got an interview from a program whose criteria is valid ecfmg certificate for application. USCE also helps a lot if people have not been in clinical practice recently, its definitely difficult but be persistent in searching and try hard to get very good score in step2; i wish you success in your efforts.

Sarika, I think the biggest limitation for you would not be your being out of practice for 5 years but the limited number of programs that you can apply to near your home in Texas. If you cannot apply beyond texas, To maximise your chances I would suggest you to apply to different specialties, IM, Phychi, FM. Meanwhile look for some US experience if u can get any. Any experience would be better than nothing. You having no visa problems is not a small plus, its a big plus. And apply asap. good luck sarika
