This is a good medical college but it is affliated with 6 hospitals.

Does any one know out of 6 which hospitals are best?

  #2

you are not going to apply to hospitals separately, so why do u wanna know?
There are 3-4 albert einsteins in NY, which one are u taling about?

yes, you have to apply to the hospital in order to go to residency. Medical school offer only admission to the the medical school itself. Like Harvard has 6 hospital. Can you please show me any residency program of Harvard Medical School itself? In the Harvard System I know which hospitals are good. Similarly I want to know in Albert Einstein System which hosptials are good one or kind of ranking

When we talk of applying for a residency we talk about applying to a program not to a hospital. A program can be affiiated to many hospitals and their interns rotate through different hospitals. For example seton hall university program is affiliated with two hospitals trinitas hospital and st michael hospital, but its one common program and interns rotate through both.
But I think now i understood what u want to know.
Well I thik Albert einstein Montefiore and Albert Ienstein beth israel are the best and very competetive. Albert einstein at jacobi program is also good but not as good as other two.

thanks but we both have different views.

Lets say at Harvard

if you apply to MGH, you will only work at MGH
if you apply to BWH then you will only work at BWN
same is true with other hospitals.

Once I asked a resident friend where do he work, he told proudly HARVARD with distinct accent. But when asked ok good but which hospital then answer is MT. Aurban hospital. YOur reaction is WHAT? for most outsiders don't know if this is also affliated with Harvard.

Your application is composed of both hospital + university. Albert Einstein at Beth Isreal etc.

Any way thanks for info and thats answer I was looking.

Q. Albert Einstein Jacobi seems to not have any fellowship program but they do offer research track residency which only offered at competitive hospitals?

on the otherside A. Einstein at Beth Israel do have fellowship programs but they don't have any research track residency. I found that strange combination.

Thats why I wanted to where these hospitals stand?

By the way how is life in Bronx? Is it like Harlem or queens?

you can visit seton halls website. They say half of their interns are based in trinitas and other half at michael hospital (in different cities) and they do rotate in both hospitals, but cant apply to these hospitals individually, u have to apply to the program (seton hall) which has affiliation with both these hospitals

I would still say beth israel is better. I will be most pleased to match there.

Dont know about the life in bronx, all areas in bronx are not bad. Beyond this your guess is as good as mine.

I did not say that you are wrong. It is true that residency is by a program and experience is at a hospital. At most teaching hospital, hospital/university itself sponsor program. For for a univeristy with many small hospitals they split up rotations to have more exposure.

For example at Harvard, derma, radiation oncology, and other residency are a combined program because they are small pt number for these things at each hospital and each hospital see different types of pt. demographics so it helps training program. But these are special cases.

Thanks for info about Albert Einstein. I just don't want to waste moeny on each and every program thats why I was thinking which one to chose. But it remains to be seen where I will end up going. I bet every one wants to be in Manhattan so beth israel will be even more competitive that MOneteri hospital.

Both are right and wrong at the same time.

Many times one university is affiliated to several hospitals each with an individual residency such as Harvard. Please note that residents at Brigham (harvard affiliated) also rotate through Faulkner and VA.

Other times one Hospital is associated with more than one University (NY Presbyterian for example associated with Cornell and Columbia).

Regarding Alberteinstein, I heard all are excellent programs and would accept FMG EXCEPT montefiori). Would not apply there.

Hope this helps. Good luck. ngt.

Hi
AS i have interviewed in albert einstein last year can tell you in some detail.

Albert einstein/MOnti- It is the present university hospital. VEry IMG unfriendly. BUt good chance of fellowhip

Albert einstein/jacobi- hospital nearer to jacobi. Poor patients but good work, lot of imgs, great research. the best staff i have ever seen. Almost everyone is faculty of medical school. Have joint fellowships with monti except for their own nephrology program. Give lot of importance to graduates from Israel.

Albert einstein/beth israel- private hospital. Good place.

albert einstein/long island-I have no idea

dev:

Where else did you interview in NY? I am interested to know university hospitals in NY like NYU, Mount Siani, Cornell or Columbi. Last 2 are very high profile but in case you know any thing about those programs.

You did not say much about Albert Einstein/Beth Isrrael if they do take IMGs and fellowship programs?

How is life in Bronx? Is it it city of it own of part of NY city?

it is officially part of NYC but actually it is a city of its own. BYthe way did u get a call? some people live just around hospital others live in mAnahattan or westchester.

Hi Laptop
Not really. But I am worried about not getting calls . So I may sound desperate but just want a general idea of who are getting the calls. BUt looks like this year people are getting very upset about this question so will just wait and watch. I was just worried the way our forum was headed.

Hi dev

No need to worry so early.Save the worries for next month. Its still early for programs to send out calls. Most programs send their calls in october barring a few.

Look at it this way.If you had got one call then would you have thought that this was your last. This could have been true if all progs had finished sending out calls but only if.If you wouldnt have thought of that 1 call as your last call, then you should not worry at all now..You missed that one call but wont miss any other .

And who says people are upset about this question of not getting calls. Please dont hesitate to ask anything.I am sure Big guns of this forum like apurva ,docrock and me (self inflation)will answer you .But you know my answers are nothing but crap ;chucks of trash that eventually find their way to the bin.But still i will be happy to answer.

I am disappointed with you for not accepting the post .But never mind..And yeah i am worrried too about where the forum is heading.WHy not take the onus upon ourself to set it straight.
