Hi,

I am an IMG and am joiing this process a little late. I only sent my documents to ERAS last week. Meanwhile, I have some questions with regards to filling out the CAF.

1. Do I mark an observership (non-paid) as work experience or volunteer experience

2. Where do I add details of my internship (the one year internship in Medical College) in the CAF? I saw a section for training and they listed out Residency, Fellowship and Osteopathic Internship. Is this where I fill in the details of each of the departments I worked in during my internship?

3. What is an osteopathic internship?

4. Where should I include CME information in the CAF? I am planning to put it in the Other Achievements section. Is that okay?

I am already late in the application process and these questions are currently blocking me. I would really appreciate it if you any of the knowledgable folks on this helpful forum reply to my questions.

Thank you very much, msp

1. Either.

2. Work or volunteer

3. Schooling for graduates of DO (osteopathic schools) - you would know if it was you. US grads only.

4. Unknown.

Thanks a lot bbb and docrocker. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to reply to my question, especially during these hectic times. I have one follow-up question:

Since the Medical School internship bascially consist of postings for short durations (1-2 months) in different specialities (ER, IM etc.), do I list them into seperate items under work experience or as just one item for a duration of one year?

Please let me know and once again thanks for the answers

msp ,Check a sample on www.residentscafe.com, it helps.

Disagree with bbb on 2-it should be work experience if you had to do it to get your degree..Volunteer means you did it out of your own initiative(IMHO)..I will not even call it work experience .l will call it exloitation experiece..the govt wasted my one year in silly internship when i could have been .....

4- answer CME in hobbies and interest ,,pd will be extremely happy to have a candidate whose hobby is to earn CME .....and lying

Thanks a lot diyamirzah and laptop. In the residentscafe.com CAF sample located at http://www.residentscafe.com/modules.php?name=Sam..., the applicant lists the one year internship as a residency. Is that correct or does it need to be under work experience?

Thanks again, msp

i can only give my view-better thing to do is either not mention it in the CAF or to mention it in the work ex

i mentioned my home country internship, medical officer job, Emergency Medicine Rotation in UK; in previous training section of CAF. In work exp, i mentioned all the volunteer, clinical attachment, elective and research stuff...

does it make a difference....i did not have to describe my job as there was no section of job description in Previous Training section in CAF

I now realize that i ticked residency in all my past training as these were recognized training posts for further exams i.e MRCP / MRCS ( Pakistan hospitals recognized by Royal College)... will that affect my application adversely....

I am NOT freaking out but just need suggestion / view from wise ppl on this forum
