Staph.Aureus is the most common agent even in sickle cell and the second most common is salmonella. It is the way that is written in Harrison's 2001.

found in CMDT(2005) at pg. 831 : "among patient with hemoglobinopathy such as sickle cell anemia, osteomyelitis is caused by salmonella ten time as often as by other bacteria".

i think this controversy can last a lot of time, because there isnīt a definitive answer, it depends on the book you read. According on my readings, the most common cause of osteomyelitis in SCD is S.aureus and second is Salmonella.

Check this out: " Salmonella spp. And S.aureus sre the major causes of long-bone osteomyelitis complicating sickle cell anemia and other hemoglobinopathies" (Harrison's 16th edition page 746). So?!... A.
