What I don't get is how does the blocking of NMDA receptors by PCP can cause the person to become psychotic and violent. Wat I understand is that glutamate causes increased excitation of neurons by binding to NMDA receptors and if the PCP blocks glutamate from binding to NMDA receptors then that should decrease excitation thus not causes psychosis. But on the contrary, when an individual takes PCP, it causes increase in excitation. Can someone plz explain that? thanks

Increasing excitation of certain neurons in the brain does not necessarily mean you'll get Stimulation! Think of it as inhibiting an inhibitor...
