Thanks for your interest in our program. We, along with numerous other
institutions, have moved away from printed materials and put all of our
program recruitment data on "the web". Please go to our site:

http://camc.wvu.edu/internal/

Here you should find all the information you need, as well as links to
ERAS, which is the only mechanism we utilize to process application
materials. Many applicants have questions about our 'minimum
requirements'. These are not set in stone. However applicants with USMLE
scores < 79 on any part are unlikely to be considered for further
evaluation and we do insist on passage of USMLE parts I and II prior to
employment, as well as possession of a J-1 visa or permanent resident
status for IMGs along with ECFMG certification. It is also expected that
applicants will have clinical experience in a US hospital system or
extraordinary alternative background in the absence of such experience.

Once you have reviewed our web site materials, I am sure you will be
convinced that Internal Medicine is some of the best training available
to form a well rounded and capable primary care physician with
extraordinary depth of knowledge and width of opportunities.
Furthermore, I think you will appreciate the unique and excellent
opportunity that our training program in Charleston affords.

I look forward to your application through ERAS and, hopefully the
opportunity to interview you in person and introduce you to our
wonderful community.

Sincerely,

Greg Clarke, MD

Thank you for inquiring about the Catholic Health System Internal Medicine Training Program based at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York. Our residency program is sponsored by the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
Our Program I.D. is 140-35-21-251

Starting September 1, 2006 we will be accepting applications for the 2007-2008 academic year for both preliminary and the categorical positions via the Electronic Residency Application Service (www.aamc.org/eras) until December 1, 2006. We do not offer externship or observership.

For international medical graduates our program requirements are as follows:
• USMLE minimum score of 86 on both parts 1 and 2 in first attempt;
• Applicants must have a graduation date from medical school of less than five (5) years
• U.S. clinical experience is preferable but not required;
• Due to the H1B visa quota limitations this year, we cannot sponsor any H1B visas; we sponsor J1 visas only;
• You must be ECFMG certified;
• We require the standard number of recommendation letters and all other forms consistent with the ERAS application.

If you do not meet all of the requirements exactly as listed above, you may use your own discretion as to whether or not you would like to apply to the Program. Please note that meeting these criteria will NOT ensure that you will receive an invitation for an interview since there are a limited number of interview slots available.

For further information, you may visit our website at www.chsbuffalo.org and click on “Medical Education.”

Thank you for your interest in our residency program! Good luck in your efforts to obtain a residency position.

Many questions arise from international medical graduates regarding eligibility requirements for a residency position in our program. The following information addresses the most frequently asked questions.

1. All applications are processed electronically through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service); we do not accept paper applications or applications submitted by e-mail. For further information, you may contact ERAS directly at: the Association of American Medical Colleges, 2450 N Street NW, Washington DC 20037 (Phone: 1-202-828-0413). All candidates are selected through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP); we do not offer “pre-match” positions. Generally, ECFMG certification (including USMLE 1, 2-CK and 2-CS examinations, English proficiency, etc.) is necessary to participate in the NRMP; graduates of medical schools outside of the United States should check with the NRMP to be sure they meet the requirements for participation. USMLE 3 is not necessary for ECFMG certification or to participate in the NRMP.

2. Candidates being seriously considered will be invited to come for an interview between November 1, 2006 and February 5, 2007; invitations are sent weekly by e-mail beginning the last week of September 2006. The deadline for receipt of applications for the 2007-2008 academic year is December 29, 2006. All applications are reviewed regardless of the date they are received; because all positions go through the NRMP, applicants interviewed in February have the same chance of matching with us as do those who interview in November; please note, however, that applicants who apply in December often are unable to schedule an interview because we run out of interview slots. Final decisions regarding the suitability of the candidate for a position, as well as the ranking in the NRMP, are made by a committee composed of those physicians who participate in the interview process.

3. The criteria we use to determine which applicants to consider are flexible and depend on the applicant pool available each year.
• Preference is given to applicants who have graduated from medical school within 5 years of the date of application.
• Preference is given to applicants who have had direct (“hands on”) in-patient clinical experience in a teaching hospital in the United States; hospital-based observerships or working in a physician office is not considered “hands-on” experience.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
• Preference is given to applicants who have USMLE (Parts I and 2-CK) scores of 85 or above. We cannot evaluate an application until we have received both of these scores. We do not require you to have taken and passed USMLE 2-CS when we review your application, but a passing score is necessary (by the end of February 2006) to enable you to participate in the NRMP. USMLE 3 scores are not used to evaluate applicants, since most applicants have not yet taken this exam.

4. The number of international medical graduates in our program varies from year to year. For the past 3 years (July 2004-July 2006), approximately 50% of our interns have been graduates of American medical schools.

5. Applicants interested in a J-1 visa are considered; these visas are sponsored by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and usually require the physician to return to his/her home country for two years after training is completed; waivers to this requirement are often available, but eligibility for this waiver varies from year to year. For further information, the ECFMG can be contacted at: 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19104-2685. The phone number is: 215-821-2121. You cannot apply for this visa until you have a residency position.

6. At the present time we do sponsor H-1b visas. The applicant must employ an immigration attorney, and there is a considerable expense involved. The visa application cannot be initiated until after you have a job commitment (ie, until after the NRMP results are announced in mid-March). You must also be ECFMG-certified and have passed USMLE 3 in order to apply for this visa; in order to begin an internship at the end of June, you should have your visa application in process by May 1. The Jewish Hospital is a non-profit, university-affiliated institution and is currently not subject to the quotas established for H-1b visas.

7. Please note that this information is provided as a guideline for you to determine how much your background matches what we are looking for in a resident as well as how likely our program is to meet your needs. We are unable to tell you how likely it is that you will be invited for an interview or your chances of being selected for NRMP ranking, since this is dependent on reviewing your ERAS application and comparing you with our other applicants.

Hi all.

Our program requirements are as follows:

U.S. clinical experience is required. At least a month, but the more you have the better your application looks to us. This is the MOST important criteria. We do not offer externships/observerships.

Applying to medical school within five years of graduating medical school. This is another VERY important criteria.

Scores of 85 or better on Steps 1 & 2 within two attempts. Passing of Step 3 is highly desired and looks great on your application.

We sponsor H1-B & J-1 visas for those who match into our program.

All applications are accepted through ERAS and our deadline will be December 1, 2006. Please note that programs cannot access ERAS until mid-September, and we do not send out invitations until October.

Application Procedures
Please visit our website for the answers to any questions you may have that are not answered below. http://www.gbmc.org/education/internalmed/index.c...
Application to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) will be through ERAS 2007, the Electronic Residency Application Service. No paper applications will be accepted.
A completed application to our program will consist of:
• ERAS Common Application Form
• Curriculum Vitae (ERAS document acceptable)
• Medical School Transcript
• Dean's Letter
• Two Letters of Recommendation - At least one of which must be from an internal medicine primary care or medical subspecialist preceptor.
• Personal Statement
• USMLE Part I Transcript (Minimum Score: 206)
• ECFMG Status Report (Foreign Medical Graduates Only)
Frequently Asked Questions:
What kind of visas do you accept for graduates of foreign medical schools?
Given the complexity of the current immigration process, we give some preference to United States citizens and permanent residents. We do, however, encourage applications from outstanding applicants of any background. Historically we have supported applications for J-1 visas for a couple applicants each year. We have not needed to resort to the H-1 process and are unlikely to do so this year.
Do you require clinical experience in the United States?
Externships and medical school rotations in American hospitals are invaluable in helping us identify extraordinary candidates. We do not require such experience.
Do you have a cut off for USMLE scores? In general our matched categorical residents score well over our official cut off of a USLME score over 206 (Either step I or step II.) We are more flexible regarding scores with preliminary candidates who have otherwise superb credentials. Unless an applicant has a particularly superb record, we discourage applicants who have graduated more than 10 years ago.

Thank you for your interest in the Marshfield Clinic/St. Joseph's Hospital's Internal Medicine Residency Program.

We accept applications for July 2007 through ERAS (NO PAPER or E-MAIL).

We need the following information with your application: Transcripts from USMLE and ECFMG, two letters of recommendation and your Dean's Letter.

We do accept international graduates and currently have several in our program. We accept H1 (Step 3 results must be received by January 31st) and J1 Visas.

Our criteria for considering applications:

You must have graduated from Medical School within the past five (5) years and meet one of the two items listed below:

1. 210> on Step 1 and Step 2 of the USMLE (If you failed Step 1 or 2 more than once, your application will NOT be considered.)

2. Four months or more of recent "hands-on" U.S. Clinical Experience. (NOT research or observing);

If you meet the above criteria, your application will be reviewed with all applicants who have met the same criteria. From this group of candidates we will select 30-40 candidates for interviews. We will notify candidates of their status via ERAS e-mail.

You do not need to have an ECFMG Certificate to apply. Application Deadline is January 1st, however, as we tend to fill interview openings early I would suggest you have your application submitted by December 1st if not earlier.

You can find up-to-date information regarding all of Marshfield Clinic's Residency Programs on our web page: www.marshfieldclinic.org/residency.

Thank you.

Q: Do you accept applications from foreign medical graduates?

A: Yes

Q: Do you have any foreign medical graduates in your program?

A: Yes

Q: Do you sponsor any type of visas and what type of visas do you sponsor?

A: Please refer to the University’s policy on the website http://www.hscj.ufl.edu/gme/brochure/eligibility_... .

We do sponsor J1 Visa’s through the ECFMG. The H1B Visa sponsorship is for faculty physicians.

Q: What date do you need ECFMG certification by?

A: The day the rank list is due to the NRMP. We will not rank applicants who do not have their ECFMG certification.

Q: Do you have any cut off for year of graduation?

A: No

Q: Do you have any cut off for USMLE Scores, exam attempts and which Step scores are required?

A: USMLE scores 1 & 2 are definitely one of the objective criteria used to evaluate applicants, but there isn't a magic number. USMLE Step 3 scores are not required for application to our program. Repeated attempts to pass the exam will reflect poorly, but are not the only criteria used to evaluate an applicant.

Q: Do you require a period of clinical or research experience in the U.S. ?

A: Preferred but not required.

Q: What questions do you want to be answered in the Personal Statement and is there a format that your program prefers?

A: There is no existing personal statement format that we are aware of. This is your opportunity to tell us something about yourself that is not included in the rest of your ERAS application.

Q: Does your program have a specific format for a Curriculum Vitae (CV)?

A: No specific format is followed. However, we do ask that you be as detailed as possible when including all activity since graduating medical school and when referring to periods of time; please include the month and year.

Q: What is the total number of first year Internal Medicine Residency positions available at your hospital?

A: We have been approved by the ACGME-RRC for 13 categorical and 5 preliminary positions. These numbers can vary each year according to our needs.

Q: Do you have any PGY 2 or PGY 3 positions available?

A: No, not at this time. Should any position become available, we would post or search for a candidate at the AAMC website http://www.aamc.org/audiencefindaresident.htm

Q: Can you tell me if my application is competitive enough to apply for your program?

A: Due to the high volume of inquiries, we are not able to answer via email. We encourage you to apply through the ERAS website http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm . Please be assured that all applications will be reviewed and considered.

Q: Do you offer any Observerships?

A: Only through an LCME accredited medical school. Please refer to their website http://www.lcme.org/ .

Q: Do you offer a pre-match?

A: No

Q: After I apply through ERAS, how soon will I know if I have been invited for an interview?

A: It varies. It can depend on the number of applications being processed as well as the strength of your application.

Q: What is the best way to communicate with your office?

A: You can email us at internalmed.gme@jax.ufl.edu

Q: Do you offer any housing?

If you are invited for an interview, the night before your interview date, accommodations and a ride from/back to JAX airport will be provided at no cost to you. If you are accepted into our program, you will be responsible for your own housing. We can refer you to real estate agencies that are dedicated to assisting you.

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding an Internal Medicine residency position at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Please visit our web site at http://www.csmc.edu/gme to get up to date information about our program. Current program brochures are no longer available. Application to our program should be sent to us via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the deadline date for accepting your application is December 15, 2006. Paper applications or applications sent through ERAS pending any of the below documentation will not be considered.

The following are requirements for a complete ERAS application.

1. Documentation of appropriate (J1) visa status and/or employment authorization for the USA.

2. ECFMG Certificate (will automatically be sent when you apply for ERAS).

3. Copies of test results from the USMLE Part 1 and Part 2.

4. The California Medical Board's letter stating you are allowed to start residency training.

5. A copy of your medical school diploma

6. A copy of an authorized translation of your medical school transcript.

7. A CAF (Common Application Form) provided through ERAS.

8. Applicants must be registered with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

9. Three letters of recommendation evaluating your medical performance.

After receiving all of the above items, your file will be screened and you will be notified via email on your interview status. The number of applicants to our Internal Medicine Program greatly exceeds the number we are able to interview. Therefore, after the Housestaff Selection Committee has reviewed each candidate's application, only those likely to be placed in our NRMP rank list will be offered an invitation to interview.

dear arachnoiditis, there is no word to say about what you are doing. or maybe there is one: FANTASTIC

  #195

Not sure if this info is already in the thread...someone asked me about UTMB Austin's requirements....apologies if its in already.Heres what I have from an email to the PC.

Thank you for inquiring about our program!

The following will give you some guidance on which applicants are successful in matching with our program.

we do not offer positions outside the Match; all applications must be made through ERAS

· because of the added documentation requirements, we prefer US Citizenship, Permanent Resident status or EAD certification (last year we did not provide or sponsor J1 or H1 visas).

· U.S. medical training, such as externships/observerships, is a plus

· long periods out of training or medical career, especially greater than 5 years, is detrimental

· ECFMG certification is required by rank day

· USMLE Steps I and II must be passed on the first attempt without failure, 80 is our cutoff.

· the tentative application deadline is 12/31/06

· last year we offered 14 Categorical & 7 Preliminary positions (this is subject to change)
