Decreased mucociliary clearance increases the risk of?

a. staph aureus

b. Myco avium

c. CMV

d. cryptococcus

e. candida

what's the reasoning behind this questions?

Is is that ciliary clearance is only for bacteria, but not for fungi/virus?

(it was an NBME question, so i don't know what the correct answer is)

i guess this answer
because impaired mucocilliary function pt have more chances of aspiration pnemonia
stap normal bacterial flora of oral cavity

i think pseudomonas will also be right if given in the choices..
