hey i just read about an NBME score of 800..is that a perfect score??

That is the highest score they will give, however, it doesn't mean 100% of the questions were answered correctly.

The scoring system is based with a mean score of 500, with a standard deviation of 100. So getting a 500 puts you at the 50th percentile, 600 at 84th percentile, 700 at 98th percentile and 800 at 99.9th percentile. According to the NBME's correlations, an 800 predicts a score >268. As we have seen on this forum, there are scores that end up being a fair amount above 268. So if the NBME gave scores above 800, they would probably be getting above 800.

I had 800 on one Step 2 ck FOrm and 800 on one Step 1 form. On the Step 2 NBME I am pretty sure that I had at least 10 of the 184 quesions wrong. So if you are thinking of perfect as having no mistakes at all its not a perfect score. ;-)
