is it to ones advantage to have dinner with a resident or residents the night before the interview? will it help in getting a spot? does it look bad if you dont have dinner? thanks for your help

if you can go for it...i think it will help to see some familiar faces the following day...if you cannot make it, i am hoping they will understand...especially if you are flying in...

Go if you can. It is good to meet residents. although this is part of their study of you too.

Rumours have it that programs disguise sodium amytal (truth extracting drug ) by mixing it with food in pre interview dinner parties.
SO if you have a few lies to tell during the interview ,attend with your own judgement.

laptop you have such a vivid imagination...wouldn't that be something if they were indeed spiking the food and drinks...

h ehehe. very funny. I have attended them and they are good place to meet and converse with residents in a informal setting

If you can make it, go. If you can't because of travel arrangements, etc let them know that you can't because of travel. They will understand.

Good luck, be yourself and be the applicant that they will want to work with next year.

Hehehe, laptop - first the Guruchus and now the imagination!

Well, I went on the pre-interview night out, and I had actually fun. It was interesting to see the people who applied and to see who my "competitors" were. It was very nice, and actually, I was accepted to that position. Unfortuantely, I didn't get a PGY1 spot, so my PGY2 spot was given to someone else.

Such is life, but definitely go!! You'll get a great meal out of it, and meet some of your future colleagues. That's important too: Do you like them? Do you think they smell or have some other oddness to them that you don't like or even do like! It's a chance for BOTH parties to see what they might be getting.
