only if you want too...you can choose to specialise in chemical pathology, and thus never do an autopsy again...also specialisation in surgical pathology means very little autopsy time... at residency you are going to do autopsies as long you are doing anatomical pathology too... yes, pathologists can practice privately...

Depends on type of pathology. If you do straight AP, yes you would if you are hired by hospital to do autopsies. If you do AP/CP and do forensic patho yes you will do autopsies. In private practice, mostly forensic pathologists do autopsies. Havingworked with forensic pathologists, most private work is done at a funeral home but can be done in M.E. office if arranged with county.
