A newborn has strabismus. Which of the following is the rationale for surgically correcting this problem during early childhood?

A. Cataract formation is more likely in misaligned eyes
B. Neither eye will develop normal monocular vision
C. Normal binocular vision will not develop
D. Retinal ganglion cells in the temporal hemiretinas will degenerate
E. Separate representations of each retina will develop on the visual cortex

C.
The areas in visual cortex will become non fucntional if no visual input from the eye. In strabismus often one eye fixes and other doesn't. The input from the eye is a stimulus for organisation of ocular columns. In ther absence, they are not organised. Also any correction of infantile cataract should be done early unlike in adults.

I agree with the reason proposed by papez but that doesnt seem to go well with the choice indicated. Im kind of divided between D & E.
