Hi guys, Those who have applied to more than one specialty, what would your answer be, if the PD asks you at the interview whether you have applied to any other specialty??? Would you say 'no' or would you be honest about it and come up with reasons as to why you applied to other specialties as well?

I think you should be honest about it.

my opinion is: depends on your personality (if u can pull off the explaining part well) and the pd's personality. honestly its a personal judgement call. if u have a good reason, which is unlikely, say it. if its due to the fact youre not sure what you want or just playing backup, i dont know how that could be a good thing for you if the pd finds that out. despite how u sugar coat it. since the chances of a pd finding out youve applied to more than 1 speciality is 0.0005%, ill find ways to try and not answer that question if i were u.

I believe that most of the PDs know that majoirty of the candidates apply to a lesser competitive specialty as a back up and they may not ask about it in the first place. If asked during the interview, I would do as dev, blitz and indiadoc said just because we cant be sure if the PDs really dont have a way to find out about our applications to other specialties.

I think it is important to give the impression of a person with a lot of focus and insight in an interview. In that case I would probably say no to that question.
