All of the test may be indicated in the investigation of a patient presenting with diffuse bronchiectasis except:
  1. High resolution CT of chest
  2. Swallwoing study by speech pathologist to rule out aspiration
  3. serum precipationg antibodies
  4. serum quantitivative immunoglobulins
  5. sweat chloride concentration

ok 1 and 5 are definitely out.

what are 3 and 4 used to test for?

am thinking, if pt has low IgA levels, will be prone to chest infections so maybe 3,4 will measure for immune deficiency states.

so by exclusion, i choose 2.

All tests are indicated except serum precipitating antibodies which are indicated in Hypersenstitivy pneumonitis which does not cause Bronchiectasis.

Repeated aspirations are one of causes of bronchiectasis, so when evaluating causes you have to keep this under considration
