female health worker from south east asia has a PPD reading of 12mm, sputum negative.

how do u read this value? does she need any prophylaxis or treatmnet?

  #2

Is she asympomatic?

If she is then:

It is positive PPD ( more then 10 cm of induration), and chest X ray is negative for TBC then she should be treated with INH alone.

  #3

And how old is she?

What was previous PPD?

  #4

CXR first

if alatent infection, 9 months of inh

if active, inh, rifampin and ethambutol for 9 mths

of course we r assumingthat the bug wasnt multidrug resistent int he given case

she is not asymptomatic, a 28 yr old female.

  #6

INH + Vit.B6 for 9 months

  #7

agree with sunny2..pt with positive ppd with no evidence of active disease should receive 9 months therapy of INH and vit B6.

  #8

does the region of the pt has got anything to do with the treatment?

  #9

PPD should be done only in asymtomatic patients, Kaplan said.

  #10

the region determines how the PPD is interpreted and that will have a bearing on what treatment is offered
