elective?! I always thought cardioversion is an emergent action! Can you please explain the elective one?

its tru that whenever a pt is unstable and has tachy cardia, ud go for cardioversion.

however the stable pt is different. remember for eg, that with AF ( 2 days) ther is a risk of dislodging a clot from the atria for eg..in this case we wud first anticoagulate for atleast 3 weeks before u seek to cardiovert him/her.

by elective i believe that it is refering to cardioversion by elective procedure vs amiodarone - i don't think that you would call amiodarone elective.

that is my two cents anyway
