An 18-month-old boy is found to have an elevated sweat chloride test. which drug combination is ideal to treat the patient:

A. Albuterol plus Ipratropium
B. Iprtropium plus N-acetylcysteine
C. Albuterol plus N-acetylcysteine
D. N-acetylcysteine plus atropine
E. Theophyline plus propranol

I will go for "C"

N - acetylcystein is mucolytic

Albuterol and Ipratropium are bronchodilators

I will preferably avoid ipratropium because it may reduce the secretion of bronchial tree making the sputum more viscus.Just a thought.

N-Acetylcysteine decrease sputum viscosity, Albuterol and ipratropium bromide are inhaled to increase the size of the small airways by relaxing the surrounding muscles. answer : B + C
