85/78 1st attempts, with 5 months usce (3 m psych hands on externship [inpatient, outpatient, C/L, child autism telepsych, addictions, ER psych, didactics and a little research - IRB certified], 1 m mem-disorders, 1 m in radio), additional other informal usce concerning stress relief, publication, biofeedback work, volunteered during katrina, member of qpsych organization, etc. my cv is packed. i have been to 3 ivs and by 2 of them was told my PS was awesome. I spent months on it, had it professionally edited and I think an awesome PS can really do a lot. A lot of non-US IMGs have uninteresting personal statements (i have helped out some foreigners on theirs) and it shows the applicant has less than awesome english. anyhow I now have 27 interviews and been on 3 and got 1 prematch offer. i am hoping for atleast 40 interviews as I want to go for the match without taking a crappy prematch. i hope this is enough. i am beginning to get worried i may not get to go to all my interviews. i have 1 week where i have to go to 3 ivs in a row and twice i got ivs back to back. i am worried i am gonna get burned out (and for this reason hoping for an iv in vegas and hawaii. ) anyhow please don't think of me as a self-grandiose beatch. last season i had 5 and didnt match since i took my step 2 on jan 17 and this i felt was too late. (latest take ur exam this year.) good luck to all!

thanks. i dont consider myself a "stellar" candidate. remeber my step 2 score is below 80. (1st attempts though.) there is more to psych than scores. i think it is my packed cv and my ps. i know there are those with double 99 out there who probably don't post but are getting ivs at prime locations. i did still get a couple of rejections at places where these double-99 dudes got in. another thing missing from my app is step 3. almost all progs will ask when u will be taking it. if u have more than 2 attempts i think it may almost be mandatory as any prog will assume u will do the same with step 3. progs want the rez to work and not be busy retaking step 3 all the time. btw if i could i would vote for delusion to be a mod here. i almost ruptured a spleen with ur funny posts. keep the humor flowing, bro and good luck.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this post and just took my step 1 a week ago. I don't think I fared too well on it. But i'm gonna deal with whatever comes. Right now i'm studying for my step 2 and i plan on taking it by the end of december. I was going to apply with just my step 1 to the three programs that I really really want to go to. How likely is it that a program will give an interview to an IMG who is applying with just a step 1 score? Is it more likely that I could get one after I update my eras saying that I've taken the step 2 at the end of december? I've got some good LOR's and I'm doing some research now but its not related to psych. I also have been observing a few psychiatrists in my home town. I really have a passion for psych and my thinking is that if programs see that at an interview that they'll really want to have me. How delusional is that exactly or am I right on the money?

How delusional is that exactly or am I right on the money? that is why i had 5 interviews last time. i applied with 1 score. also i took step 2 jan 17 and i think it was too late. i think the latest u should take it is by end of december. MAKE SURE U PASS THE NBME PRACTICE EXAM BEFORE TAKING IT!! remember u have to pass it, not just take it. also last time i had no usce. i would give it a shot but remember it will be tough unless u got 99 or so on step 1. some1 with that score has a 99.9% chance of atleast passing step 2 so a program would go for him or her. i knew someone who got 90+ last season and took her step 2 just a few months ago. i think she had 10 IM interviews or so and didnt go to all of them. a program or 2 asked her to go ahead and take step 2 earlier and they were real interested in her. i didnt get the same interest. search for my posts from last season. good luck. do your best, dont get dissapointed and if you dont match u will now have a shot at getting some more usce, etc so u can get 27 interviews next time.

hi dntwn82 welcome to this forum... well you can always give a try with step1 score... i was wondering have you taken your step2 CS as well; i think waiting for step2 till december could be too late and you can always mention it in your CAF about appearing for step2 CK in dec... you sound passionate and positive abt psychiatry and programs look for your commitment to this field... GL ....

december may be late but jan is too late. i took mine in jan 17 (usmle is closed the 1st 2 weeks of jan) and did not match even with 5 ivs. but in a way it was a blessing as i had time to get some usce. usce in psych makes a huge difference. i bet i would only have 15 ivs now instead of the 27 if i didnt get psych usce. and also with psych usce i can interview much better so even if i have less ivs i get ranked higher at each place. of course i am no PDso this all could be a delusion. but it seems our buddy delsion has the monopoly on all the delusions here so i think i may be right.

hi guys its been ages that i have heard from any psych program now..... and this is deepening psychological conflict in myself due to clash between my ego and supergo..... ego being representative of basic desires insists that most pd's are going to write to me soon and superego being mature says just the opposite.... due to this conflict i have become more psychologically oriented and now i am developing transference towards PD's thinking them as old fashioned teachers who used to appreciate student's credentials not very easily...don't know how others feel abt it neways its keeping me off from psychotic phenomenon which is good prognostic sign.. GL guys....

PM me if u dont get it.

Never had to read Psych books or undergo any training as i spend most of my time reading my autobiography Took USMLE under passivity phenomenon Not sure if match is a reality or myth (till i get a post) Publication- 100 Reasons to consider IMG's in match (to be published soon after the match) Above all i wrote to Austin PD abt his alleged connection with guruchus in my Personal Statement.... Neways its good that you are interested in this program and see ur pm for some more confidential details.... GL to you

Hi! I applied for 2007 match. I old FMG, GC holder, have 3 LORs from US doctors (not psych.). 87/97/pass, no USCE in psych, in my home country I was Internal medicine doctor. So far-no IV, no rejections. Is any hope for me? Is it wise, to send e-mails to programs, informing that I will start observrship in psychiatry soon? What else to do in oder to get some IV? Thanks.

Hi Zoia your credentials are pretty impressive including your scores, USCE and visa status. how many programs have you applied. i think the reason for you having to wait a bit is probably due to lack of psych experience in your credentials but it is very likely that you hear frm programs soon.....informing programs re observership plans sounds good....
