First Aids says 38 ATP (through malate shuttle ) or 36ATP (through G3P shuttle) are produced in aerobic glucose metabolism.

Lecture note says 8 ATP (through malate shuttle ) or 6ATP (through G3P shuttle) are produced in aerobic glycolysis.

I can't fugure out where the difference comes from. Can some one help? thanks

hi marine in FA they are talking abt the complete oxidation of glucose starting from glycolysis..see in glycolytic pathway net generation of ATP'S =8(through malate shuttle)
generation of ATP in pyruvate dehydrogenation=6
generation of ATP in TCA Cycle= 24
So total net generation of ATP from one glucose molecule=38...
hope it helps...

Thanks drpkaur,

your answer was exactly what i needed! I was not counting ATP from pyruvate dehydrogenation.

now how do I come up with 12 from TCA cycle?
the following is generated per Acetyl CoA:

3 NADH
1FADH2
2COs
1 GTP

am I right and calculating:
3x3(NADH) + 1x2(FADH2) + 1(GTP)=12 per Acetyl CoA?

maybe I shouldn't get too caught up in details...
