Hi, I have read in other threads that in order to do residency in Illinois we need 4 weeks of Psychiatry. I have done 2 weeks of Psychiatry postings in my 3rd year and 2 weeks of Psychiatry posting in my final year. However, I do not have any documentation regarding this. Does this mean I cannot apply to Illinois? None of the residency programs mention this requirement in their application process. Could someone please elaborate on what exactly this requirement means and if there is any place I can get more clarification about this? Also, if this requirement is valid, by when do I need documentation for the psychiatry postings? Is it at the time I am applying to medical schools, at the time I go for interviews OR at the time I join a residency (if i get one in Illionis )? Thanks a lot in advance

this is a requirement of Illinois State Medical Board... I think the four weeks you mentioned is how mostl IMGs do Psychiatry...you fullfil the requirement... but your Medical School Transcript must state this as part of your clerkships...

Thanks a lot for the reply AAC. In my school the psychiatry rotations were basically part of Internal Medicine and so my transcripts dont explicitly call out on the psychiatry rotations. Is it okay if I can get a letter from a Psychiatry professor or Head of Department stating that I had done those rotations? Also, can you also tell me by when I need this documented? Is it while I am applying to residency programs in Illinois, when I am going for interviews OR when I actually start the residency (if I do get in Illinois)? Thanks a lot msp
