  #5

hemolytic anemia - C or E. females affected. so E....

  #6

E for sure...as G6PD IS X-linked...

  #7

nod

  #8

raised eyebrow My answer is C, because in the question is affected both sex (female and male) not only the girls. The question says:" Their older brother was previously diagnosed with the same disorder".

  #9

only males are affected in an x linked recessive condition i.e., G6PD deficiency
so it is pyruvate kinase deficiency

again sorry for the old school posts but i think the question is very good..

my answer is g6pd because x-link recessive dses can be passed down to males if the the mother is the carrier.

all the posts are correct in saying that there is no male to male transmission but the question doesn't state that the father has the disease.

Pyruvate kinase

  #12

pyruvate kinase usually comes up with congenital lacticacidosis which usually precipitates after a heavy carbohydrate meal...
truely its the most common glycolytic enzyme deficiency hemolytic anemia cause ...
but the most common enzyme deficiency linked hemolytic anemia is G6PD def anemia...
G6PD def is known as X-linked recessive disease doesnt mean that girls cant have it....
if the father is also carrying a recessive X gene and mother is also carrying an recessive X linked gene....sisters can be HOMOZYGOUS for the disease...
so I wud go for G6PD smiling face
