You go to the student health clinic for your annual PPD. Over the course of 48 h, it turns red. You cannot remember coming in contact with anyone who was positive for TB. You are in good health, do not have HIV, have never used IV drugs, have had normal chest X rays in the past, and have never had TB before. The induration is 11 mm, and you have checked it at least 100 times. From this information you present back to student health expecting to hear which of the following?

A. This is a positive PPD.

B. This is a negative PPD; come back in one year for your annual retest.

C. This is a negative PPD; come back in one month for a retest.

D. This is an equivocal PPD; let's repeat it now.

E. This is a positive PPD; please remain here while we call the CDC for containment.

the answer says B  anybody can say why it is a negative test.
isnt the minimum induration diameter to term it as positive, 10mm ?

induration >10 consider positive regardless of the bcg vaccination, and country of origin.
induration >5 is positve only in hiv positive pt
As no bcg is given in usa induration not redness >10 is surely consider positive

over 35 years of age probably would not get INH/B6=
+PPD also immediately gets CXR

A; should be the ans.
the question says "......annual ppd" which presumes that the student had already been vacinated before. so the result should be possitive due to the former vaccine
